New Year, New Name

Effective 1/1/22, Rodeo City Rollergirls (RCR) has changed our name to Rodeo City Roller Derby (RCR) to better reflect our commitment to inclusivity and anti-discrimination.

A great amount of thought, consideration and work has gone into this name change. RCR stands by the WFTDA gender statement, declaring that we are “committed to inclusive and anti-discrimination practices in relation to all transgender women, intersex women, and gender expansive participants, and aim to ensure that all skaters’, volunteers’… rights are respected and protected.” Our new name reflects this commitment.

The change from “Rollergirls” to “Roller Derby” also shifts focus towards the athleticism and skill of the sport while eliminating gendered or sexualized language. Our skaters and referees are serious athletes and our new name places the focus on the sport.

RCR recognizes that there is always work to be done to become more inclusive, but we believe this a big step in the right direction. We are thankful to our league members that have made this change happen and made the transition smooth.

While we will be going by a different name, you can be sure that the hard hits will be just the same!
